2 arrested for stealing car batteries from vehicles at senior living facilities in Burbank: Police

BURBANK, Calif. (FOX 11) - A man and a woman have been arrested for allegedly stealing car batteries from vehicles senior living facilities in Burbank, police said.

Around 6:30 a.m. Friday, Burbank Police Officers pulled over a vehicle near the intersection of Glenoaks Boulevard and Olive Avenue for not having a front license plate. The driver of the car was an adult male with a suspended driver license, an adult female passenger was also in the vehicle, police said.

The police officers who made the traffic stop began issuing the driver a citation and initiated an
impound of his vehicle. During an inventory of the vehicle's contents, police officers discovered 20
car batteries in the trunk. Within a relatively short time of making this discovery, the Burbank Police
Department began receiving calls from nearby citizens reporting the theft of their car batteries.

Both suspects were placed under arrest and booked on suspicion of possessing stolen property. They have been identified as Devontie Banner, 28, of Long Beach, and Julie Perez, 27, of Belize City, Belize.

Both are being held on $20,000 bail and are due in court on Tuesday.

All 20 victims were identified and have since had their batteries returned to them. The majority of victims resided in senior living facilities located in the 300 block of East Harvard Road and 600 block of North Glenoaks Boulevard, police said.
