Athletes raise funds for CHLA at 32nd annual Malibu Triathlon, $1.4M raised

Just over $1.4 million was raised for childhood cancer research at the 32nd Annual Malibu Triathlon, organizers said.

Formally known as the Nautica Malibu Triathlon presented by Bank of America Merrill Lynch, the event took place this weekend , and saw some swimmers decide to forgo the swim as heavy winds hit Zuma Beach Saturday. Conditions were less turbulent today.

Actor John Cryer was among the participants, 'Children's Hospital is an amazing place and it's actually a really fun thing to do!'

Alexander Romanenko was overall winner of the triathlon, finishing the half-mile swim, 17-mile bike ride and four mile run in 1 hour, 15 minutes and 19 seconds. Julie Ertel was the fastest woman, at 1:30:39.

In the celebrity division, actor Martin Henderson was the fastest man with a time of 1:43:07, and actress Isabelle Fuhrman was the fastest woman with a 2:00:51 time.

Team Community took the first-place spot in the co-ed celebrity relay division with an overall time of 1:26:57.

FOX 11's Sandra Endo lead the Good Day LA relay team with a half mile swim!

'Only sharks in the water are FOX 11 baby! OK!', Endo said.

Some of the proceeds from the event go to fund pediatric cancer research and treatment at Children's Hospital Los Angeles, and the triathlon is attended by doctors, nurses and family members whose children have been undergoing lifesaving cancer treatments at the hospital.
