Bill would allow Californians to register their vehicle every other year, instead of annually
LOS ANGELES (FOX 11) - A new bill aims to allow California drivers to register their vehicles with the Department of Motor Vehicles every other year, rather than annually.
The bill was proposed by Senator Jim Beall. Senate Bill 460 would authorize the DMV to permit registrations for vehicles on a biennial basis, with subsequent renewals being required at biennial intervals thereafter, as specified.
Existing law in California generally establishes an annual registration period for vehicles and imposes annual registration fees on vehicles.
Senate Bill 460 was introduced as a part of the 2019-2020 legislative session. If the bill passes, it would take effect on January 1, 2020.
