Police: Popular South El Monte football player allegedly killed by ex-boyfriend after breakup
EL MONTE, CA (FOX 11) - Hundreds gathered at a vigil in South El Monte Thursday night to remember a high school student found brutally stabbed to death allegedly by his ex-boyfriend.
FOX 11 has learned more about the apparent motive and just how far the suspect allegedly went to cover his tracks. His friends said 17-year-old Jeremy Sanchez was bisexual. His ex allegedly killed him.
Detectives said he was breaking up with the suspect and wanted to date a girl.
The suspect had the mindset of, "If I can't have you...Nobody can," according to investigators.
Friends Nelly Mendoza and Ashlie Lara called Jeremy a best friend since the 7th grade. They were two out of hundreds of people who showed up to pay their respects with many of them visiting the very spot where Jeremy lost his life.
His body was found near the wash of the San Gabriel River on Wednesday. He had been reported missing by his family when he never showed up for school.
Police said they believe his 16-year-old ex-boyfriend stabbed him to death after a breakup and tried to cover it up.
