CPK holds fundraiser to benefit family of slain Long Beach fire captain

Participating California Pizza Kitchen restaurants across the Southland will be holding a fundraiser today to benefit the family of a Long Beach fire captain who was fatally shot at the scene of an explosion at a senior housing complex.

Capt. Dave Rosa, 45, was shot June 25 at the 11-story building in the 600 block of East Fourth Street. He was a 17-year veteran of the department and a married father of two sons.

The nonprofit group Police and Fire: The Fallen Heroes has partnered with California Pizza Kitchen for the fundraiser, during which 20 percent of customers' bills will be donated to Rosa's family.

To take part in the fundraiser, diners can either mention the event to their server or present a copy of a flyer available at www.thefallenheroes.org. The fundraiser is valid on dine-in, take-out and catering orders.

Thomas Man Kim, 77, is accused of killing Rosa. Authorities contend Kim set off an explosive device in the senior housing building in an effort to kill a neighbor with whom he had been feuding. He allegedly got scared when police and firefighters arrived and began shooting, striking Rosa and another firefighter who survived.

A separate fund to benefit Rosa's family has also been established, with information available at www.friendsoflbfire.org/police-fire-memorial.
