Grandmother killed, 2 young children struck by hit-and-run driver in La Mirada
LA MIRADA, Calif. (FOX 11) - An elderly woman died after she and two young children were struck by a hit-and-run driver on Wednesday afternoon in La Mirada.
The sheriff's office said the grandmother and her two young grandchildren, a boy and a girl, were struck from behind by a hit-and-run driver in the 14800 block of Escalona Road, near Escalona Elementary School, around 1:15 p.m.
All three pedestrians were taken to the hospital. Unfortunately, the woman died at the hospital from her injuries. Her identity was not immediately released.
The condition of the boy and girl are unknown at this time.
The suspect vehicle was captured on surveillance video and was described by authorities as a 2015-2017 dark grey 4-door Toyota Camry with damage to its front passenger-side headlight area. The L.A. Sheriff's Office tweeted a picture of the car hoping someone in the community might recognize it and call police.
Investigators believe a male suspect is behind the wheel of this tragic incident.
