Fire damages strip mall in San Gabriel area
ALHAMBRA, Calif. (FOX 11) - Firefighters on Wednesday worked to extinguish a second-alarm fire at a strip mall in San Gabriel.
The fire was reported about 6:30 a.m. at the Valley & New Center mall at Valley Boulevard and New Avenue, a fire dispatcher said.
The fire burned through the roof of the structure, which collapsed, and firefighters surrounded the building and poured water on the flames in an effort to prevent them from spreading to other structures.
The firefighting effort was continuing more than 90 minutes after the fire was reported. Firefighters from Alhambra and San Gabriel were among the personnel battling the flames.
Traffic was routed away from the area as a precaution, the San Gabriel Police Department reported.
