Five injured in vault explosion in Long Beach
LONG BEACH, CA (CNS) - An explosion in an underground electrical vault in Long Beach injured five people Tuesday morning.
A preliminary investigation determined officers heard an explosion around 4:10 a.m. near Golden Shore and West Seaside Way, according to Lt. Tony Lopez of the Long Beach Police Department.
It was determined a crew from Southern California Edison was working in an underground vault at that location when the explosion occurred and Long Beach firefighters were called to the scene, Lopez said.
Firefighters rescued two men who were still in the vault and five people were transported to hospitals in unknown condition, but their injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, he said.
The cause of the explosion was under investigation.
