1 dead, 3 seriously hurt after being hit by suspected drunk driver

A driver suspected of being under the influence of alcohol or drugs was arrested after allegedly plowing into a family of four in Irvine Wednesday night, killing the mother and seriously injuring the father and two teenage children.

Kamal Attoh, 37, of Irvine, was taken into custody, said Irvine Police Department Public Information Officer Kim Mohr.

The collision was reported at about 8 p.m. in the area of Ridgeline and Turtle Rock drives, according to Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Tony Bommarito.

The other three victims -- a 15-year-old girl, a 16-year-old boy and a 49-year-old man -- were taken to hospitals with serious injuries, the man by helicopter to UCI Medical Center in Orange, Bommarito said.
