Fundraiser held for family of 14-year-old killed, sister critically injured while walking to school
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (FOX 11) - The Los Angeles Police Department Newton Station will host a four-hour fundraiser on Wednesday to raise money for the family of two sisters who were struck by a big rig while walking to school, killing one of the girls and critically injuring the other.
Tragically, on April 4, Marlene Lorenzo, 14, and her sister Amy, 12, were struck by a semi-truck near the intersection of Broadway Place and 37th Street, just north of Exposition Boulevard. Unfortunately, Marlene did not survive, and Amy is still battling for her life with severe injuries, police said.

"The Lorenzo family needs our support," the Los Angeles Police Department Newton Station said in a press release. "Your financial support will help pay for medical and funeral expenses. Please come and show your support."
Members of the Lorenzo family are expected to be on hand, along with LAPD Capt. Daniel Randolph and a representative of City Councilman Curren D. Price's office.
The fundraiser is being held at the LAPD Newton Station, in the Red Davis Parking Lot, located at 3400 South Central Ave. The fundraiser will run from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.
Anyone who is unable to attend the fundraiser can donate to the family through their GoFundMe page.
