Homeless to be evicted from Orange County motel

Confusion, anger and disappointment for the homeless evicted from temporary housing in an Anaheim motel.

This is the second time they have been forced out after being moved from the Santa Ana River.

To many, Federal Judge David O. Carter was a sort of instant and unlikely hero when he told Orange County officials that if they wanted to evict hundreds of homeless people from the Santa Ana river bed, they had better provide housing for every one of them first. Fine.

Now, months down the road, where are we? One development that is very controversial is happening in Anaheim, where a hotel converted for temporary housing for those in need of mental health care, at $1.6 million taxpayer dollars for 99 rooms through august ( just part of the overall cost ) is saying ''goodbye'' to those a contract agency has determined don't need that level of ''intensive care."

Ron, 56, who's ''pretty mad'' lost half his belongings after moving from the river, has been here for a month, now is being force out again. When you don't have anyone or anyplace to begin with, this is rough. He and others with ( now ) no place to go ( again ) are welcome at a 24/7 shelter the county set up in the Santa Ana Civic Center, literally a grim, concrete abandoned bus station, but ron says he can't deal with large crowds, and rooms full of people. A real problem that many who deal with the homeless understand and accept.

This is a very vivid and real example of the complex and convoluted and seemingly impossible nature of trying to house and help the homeless. Many people are trying to do the right thing for the right reasons but someone always seems to be unhappy and claim they're being treated unfairly.
