Inmate walks away from Ventura conservation camp

The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation officials are looking for a minimum security inmate who walked away from the Ventura Conservation Camp, located near Camarillo, in Ventura County, on Sunday night.

Inmate Johnny Macias, 20, was discovered missing by camp staff at about 10:10 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 24. Camp staff searched the inmate dormitory area, surrounding buildings and the camp perimeter after he was discovered missing. All local law enforcement agencies and the CDCR Office of Correctional Safety have been notified and are assisting in the search and apprehension efforts.

Inmate Macias was last seen wearing gray shorts and a white t-shirt and is described as a Hispanic male, 5'9", 175 pounds, black hair, and brown eyes and was last seen with a mustache. He has a tattoo on the right side of his neck. Macias was received by CDCR with a three-year sentence from Orange County for carjacking. He was scheduled for release on April 24, 2018.

Anyone who sees Macias's should immediately contact law enforcement or call 911. Anyone knowing the location of Macias or having other relevant information is asked to contact the Ventura Conservation Camp Commander at (805) 983-1332, or the Sierra Conservation Center Watch Commander at (209) 984-5291, ext. 5439.
