Homicide detectives investigating after child's body found on hiking trail in Hacienda Heights

HACIENDA HEIGHTS, Calif. (FOX 11) - Homicide detectives were investigating Tuesday after the body of a child was found along a hiking trail in Hacienda Heights.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Homicide Bureau detectives were called just after 10:30 a.m. to a hiking trail near South Hacienda Boulevard and Glenmark Drive.

Authorities said the victim, identified as a child between 8 to 13 years old, was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators were waiting for the coroner to determine the victim's gender.

Detectives believe the body was likely placed at the location within the last 24 hours, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
