Man accused of brutally attacking girlfriend with hammer still on loose

Police are searching for 28-year-old Brian Cruz who's accused of severely and violently beating his 25-year-old fiancee and her mother with a hammer.

The brutal attack happened at a home in the 600 block of West Wilson Avenue in Glendale on July 19 shortly after 4 a.m.

Police say Cruz left the scene before officers arrived but not before striking his fiancee in the face and head several times with a hammer resulting in her suffering several bone fractures to her face and skull as well as an amputated finger. She remains in critical condition in a drug-induced coma.

The victim's mother tried to intervene during the attack and Cruz struck her in the head with the hammer, according to Glendale police. She was treated at the hospital for serious injuries and was later released.

Cruz is described as a Hispanic male adult, 5-feet 11-inches tall, about 200 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes. Cruz was driving a black GMC Sierra pickup truck with a black license plate number BCG1129 .
