Man dies after being rescued from burning yacht in San Pedro
SAN PEDRO (CNS) - A man found on a burning yacht at Los Angeles Harbor in San Pedro and removed from the stricken vessel by Los Angeles city firefighters later died at a hospital, authorities said Monday.
The fire was reported at 10:08 p.m. Sunday on a 70-foot yacht at Berth 33 near 22nd and Miner streets, said Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Amy Bastman. The patient was in critical condition when taken to a hospital.
It took 47 firefighters 27 minutes to put out the flames, Bastman said.
There was no immediate information on how the fire started.
The deceased patient was described as a 65-year-old man and the cause of death was believed to have been smoke inhalation, said coroner's Investigator Jerry McKibben.
