Man in bulletproof vest dies in officer-involved shooting in Pasadena
PASADENA, Calif. (FOX 11) - A man wearing a bulletproof vest and holding a firearm died after an exchange of gunfire with Pasadena police in the 1500 block of Glen Avenue Friday evening.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department is investigating the officer-involved shooting. They say Pasadena police officers were called to the Glen Avenue home at about 6:30 p.m. to investigate a report of a man with a gun. When officers arrived, they located the suspect standing within the fence of a yard.
The suspect yelled at the officers then pointed the gun at them and that's when the officer-involved shooting occurred, the Sheriff's Department says. The suspect then went to the back of the yard and out of the officers' view but police eventually located him unresponsive and suffering from at least one gunshot wound, authorities said. It's unclear if the suspect was killed by police gunfire or took his own life.
The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators found a rifle with a large capacity drum style magazine and a handgun near the suspect and there was evidence to support he had fired at least one round, the Sheriff's Department said.
The suspect's identity was not immediately released by authorities. The investigation is ongoing.
