Officers exchange gunfire with vehicle pursuit suspects in Highland Park

LOS ANGELES (FOX 11 / CNS) - Two car-theft suspects were in custody Monday after leading Los Angeles police on a vehicle chase in the Highland Park area during which a gun battle occurred between them and the officers, authorities said.

The shootout occurred about 12:10 a.m. as the car was being chased by the officers in the area of Figueroa Street and Avenue 52, the Los Angeles Police Department reported.

The white Honda Civic kept going to the area of Aldama Street and Avenue 50, where the suspects got out of the car and ran into the neighborhood, police said.

Officers set up a containment and arrested the two men, one of whom was taken to a hospital for treatment of an unspecified injury. No officers were hurt. A firearm believed used in the shooting was recovered.
