L.A. serial face-slasher arrested

Los Angeles police have confirmed that they have arrested the suspect involved in slashing at least eight people's faces in the L.A. area.

LAPD will hold a press conference regarding the arrest of the "Bicycle Slasher" at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, 2019.

EARLIER

A serial slasher is attacking people in Lynwood, South Gate and South Los Angeles with a sharp object.

The victims have been severely cut on their faces by a man on a dark-colored bicycle. The latest incident occurred on April 1, 2019, in the area of Florence Avenue and Avalon Boulevard in South L.A.

Officers found a man suffering from an edged weapon wound to the left side of his face. Police say the victim was standing on the sidewalk near the bus stop when the attack happened. The suspect approached the victim on his bicycle and slashed at the victim as he rode past him, LAPD said.

About 15 minutes later, at about 8:55 a.m., officers received a report of a woman that had been slashed in her face as the suspect rode past her near 59th Place and Avalon Boulevard. Authorities say the attack caused severe injury to the left side of the woman's face and ear.

Other attacks happened on March 20 at 7:30 a.m. and March 27, 2019, at 11:09 a.m.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic man 18-30 years old with short hair, about 5-feet 6-inches tall and weighing approximately 150 pounds. He was wearing a dark-colored t-shirt and dark pants. He was last seen riding a black and green mountain bike westbound on Slauson Avenue from Main Street.
