Sun Valley couple killed in hit-and-run crash

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (FOX 11) - Police are asking for the public's help in identifying the person who left the scene of a hit-and-run accident, killing a Sun Valley couple.

Investigators believe the two drivers were street racing when one of the cars hit the husband and wife who were uninvolved in the racing.

59-year old Olivia Enriquez had picked up her husband, 58-year old Leland West from work and the two were heading home. They were less than half a mile away when they were killed.

Enriquez's sister, clutching onto the only two old pictures of them she has, describes West as caring and loving and her sister as the caretaker of the family and strong.

"It's like the world has turned," said Aurora Rincon. "And it's hard to go forward but I have no other choice. I thought she was going to live longer, a lot longer, we always think that because she was so strong."

"They had no children but they were like peas in a pod, always spending time together," said Thelma Munoz, also Enriquez's sister.

The couple was in their 1998 green Toyota Corolla on San Fernando Road at about 7 pm Friday, trying to turn left on Lankershim to head home, when a white 2015 Dodge Charger hit them. Investigators believe the 25-year-old woman driving was racing another Dodge Charger, dark in color that didn't stop. Witnesses also told police they saw a man running from the crash to nearby railroad tracks.

"I don't know why. I know they're scared but you're going to get caught anyway," says Rincon. "And how could you live with yourself if you know you did something like that."

Rescuers used power tools to free the young woman driving the white Dodge and one of her two passengers, both suffering severe injuries. Police say when she heals, she will be arrested and booked.

Detectives are asking anyone with information to call LAPD and feel free to remain anonymous.
