Woodland Hills neighbors try to keep holiday spirit alive on Candy Cane Lane

WOODLAND HILLS, CA (FOX 11) - Thousands make the trip to Woodland Hills' Candy Cane Lane to see some of the most festive homes in the Southland.

But it seems not everyone in the neighborhood is into the holiday spirit.

Candy Cane Lane Neighbor Matthew Wright believes a neighbor is behind Candy Cane Lane, showing up as "closed" on Google Maps.

Wright put in a request - hoping Google changes the hours to open.

But even if they do, a growing number of neighbors are considering going dark.

Marie Lyle says her neighborhood is constantly vandalized during the Hollywood season.

"I haven't had anything stolen like some of my neighbors have but we end up with broken stuff, trash all over our neighborhood," said Lyle.

Wright says he's hosting a neighborhood meeting this weekend to hand out traffic cones and signs reminding visitors not to litter.

But says he won't take it personally if neighbors decide not to decorate.

"I think they wanted to say 'let's bring attention to it' and they did," said Wright.

He says the controversy is a chance for neighbors to come together during the holiday season and solve a growing problem.
