Man drowns at Magic Johnson Park in Willowbrook

LOS ANGELES COUNTY, Calif. - Authorities said a man drowned at the lake at Magic Johnson Park in South Los Angeles Monday afternoon.

Los Angeles County firefighters and a county dive team were sent to the lake in the unincorporated Willowbrook area following a report a man jumped into the lake and did not emerge.

He was pulled from the water in critical condition and taken to the hospital where LA County sheriff’s officials said he died hours later.

The victim’s name is being withheld until his family is notified.

Authorities were working to determine why he jumped into the lake as swimming is prohibited at the park.
