Megan 'Monster' Hawkins arrested after witness recognizes her from Netflix's 'Jailbirds'
ELK GROVE, Calif. - Authorities in California ended up arresting a woman on suspicion of unlawfully using personal information as well as other crimes after a witness recognized her from the Netflix show "Jailbirds."
Megan "Monster" Hawkins was arrested Friday on suspicion of possession of a stolen vehicle, unlawful use of personal identifying information and violating her probation.
The Elk Grove Police Department posted on Facebook that dispatch received a call that day regarding a woman trying to open a checking and savings account with an ID that wasn't in her name at a local bank.
The teller told dispatch that she became suspicious of the woman and called police. A witness said they recognized the suspect as Hawkins from "Jailbirds," a show that focuses on incarcerated women inside the Sacramento County Jail.
When officers arrived at the scene, the suspect had walked out of the bank and left in a vehicle. Police then learned the vehicle the woman had was reported stolen.
Authorities said Hawkins was found not far from the bank and detained. Officers then searched her vehicle and discovered several credit cards in different people's names. A search of her property also showed she was in possession of a controlled substance.
Hawkins was booked into the city's main jail.
