SEGMENT A: Students speak
We see a re-enactment video of an active shooter drill held on the campus of Saugus High just weeks before the shooting. Students say it helped. The students recount their experiences on the day of the shooting- where they were, how they reacted.
SEGMENT B: More students speak
Students talk about the heroes who helped take care of injured students, as well as discuss their reactions to the identification of the shooter. They talk about what it was like to go back to campus for the first time and explain how helpful the support system of their friends and faculty are.
SEGMENT C: Mothers and Teacher respond to shooting.
A mother discusses her terror when she heard about the shooting, her sympathy for the parents whose kids did not survive. She says she’s proud of the teachers and the students for how they reacted. Teacher discusses what happened in his classroom when the shooting happened.
He talks about how he told the students how to respond during the emergency and afterwards. He says he was emotional because he had to be responsible for all of his students.
He says the lesson learned is that these shootings can happen anywhere and one has to be prepared.
SEGMENT D: Wrap Up
Hal explains latest “What the Hal” Podcast Student says their takeaway from this incident is that love will win out over hate and that they are strong.
