1 dead in Covina liquor store shooting
COVINA, Calif. - A 38-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder for allegedly fatally wounding a man inside a liquor store in Covina, authorities said Sunday.
A person of interest was taken into custody Saturday by Covina police officers. He was later identified as Luis Gonzalez, of West Covina, who was arrested on suspicion of murder.
Officers were dispatched about 4:40 p.m. Friday to Kindred Hospital, 845 N. Lark Ellen Ave., in West Covina after being advised by the West Covina Police Department that they were investigating a gunshot victim who was possibly wounded in Covina, the Covina Police Department reported.
The person who drove the victim to the hospital was uncooperative and claimed the shooting occurred at a local park in Covina.
Officers eventually figured out that the shooting occurred inside a liquor store at 1459 N. Hollenback Ave.
"The victim ultimately succumbed to his injuries and two individuals were taken into custody in connection with this investigation," according to a news statement.
