1 killed, 2 injured after SUV plows into Silver Lake oyster bar

An investigation is underway after one person was killed and two others were injured when a small SUV crashed into an oyster bar in Silver Lake late Wednesday morning, officials said.

First responders were called to L & E Oyster Bar located near the intersection of Silver Lake Boulevard and Effie Street around 10:35 a.m. 

Authorities reported that witnesses attempted to render aid immediately following the crash until paramedics arrived.

A man riding a Vespa-type scooter died on scene. A 72-year-old woman and a 52-year-old man -- were taken to a hospital in serious condition, the LAFD reported.

The names of the victims have not been released. 

Video from SkyFOX showed the restaurant suffered significant damage in the crash. The eatery was set to open at 4 p.m. 

Authorities do not believe anyone was inside the restaurant at the time of the crash. 

The area is expected to be closed for the next several hours while authorities continue to investigate. Drivers were asked to take Griffith Park Blvd. or Glendale Ave. as an alternative.

The Northeast Division of the Los Angeles Police Department is investigating.
