COMPTON, Calif. (FOX 11) - A two-plane crash at the Compton-Woodley Airport Wednesday evening killed one person and sent another to the hospital.
Shortly before 7 p.m., Sheriff's deputies in Compton were dispatched to the airport's tarmac for a collision involving a Cessna-type aircraft, according to a tweet by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office.
Firefighters had extinguished a fire from two small planes that appeared to have collided with each other by the time deputies arrived, the Sheriff's office said. One plane was identified as a single-engine North American T28 aircraft, a Vietnam-era plane. The second aircraft was identified as a single-engine Cessna 152.
One person was killed in the crash and another person was taken to the hospital, according to the Compton Fire Department. That person's condition is unknown at this time.
The crash site has been secured by Compton Sheriff's Station patrol deputies, pending the response of Sheriff's Department Aero Bureau and the Federal Aviation Administration.
