LOS ANGELES - A baby girl is dead and two people injured following a three-vehicle crash Monday on the westbound 101 Freeway in the Valley Village area.
Firefighters were sent to the freeway at Tujunga Avenue at about 1:30 p.m., the Los Angeles Fire Department reported.
According to CHP, 27-year-old Bobby Perez was driving a 2018 Land Rover with the baby and another passenger, 26-year-old Cynthia Olvera of Sylmar, northbound when a truck tractor towing an enclosed trailer merged from the shoulder into the same lane. That's when the two vehicles collided, CHP said, and the Land Rover rolled over multiple times before hitting the concrete wall at the north edge of the freeway.
One person was trapped in the wreckage, the fire department reported. All three people in the Land Rover were transported to the hospital, Perez in fair condition, Olvera in serious condition, and the baby in grave condition. LAFD said the baby had been ejected from the vehicle.
The driver of the truck, 67-year-old Zumaya Gerardo of Los Angeles, was not injured, CHP said.
The cause of the crash remained under investigation.
No arrests have been made at this time.
Anyone who witnesses this crash is urged to call the CHP West Valley Area office at 818-888-0980.
