2 killed in overnight crash on 22 Freeway in Garden Grove
GARDEN GROVE (CNS) - Two men were killed Monday when a red sedan crashed into a wall on the Brookhurst Street offramp of the Garden Grove (22) Freeway and a good Samaritan and the driver of the crashed car were struck by another vehicle, authorities said.
The California Highway Patrol says the crash occurred around 1:55 a.m. on the westbound Garden Grove Freeway. Witnesses reported the vehicle was being driven recklessly prior to the crash.
The two victims were pronounced dead at the scene, a Garden Grove Fire Department dispatcher said. No details about them were immediately released.
A good Samaritan stopped to assist the driver in the first crash when another vehicle struck them, a CHP officer told reporters at the scene.
The CHP issued a SigAlert at 2:09 a.m. shutting down all westbound lanes of the Garden Grove Freeway from The City Drive. The HOV lane was reopened at 2:40 a.m. and the remaining lanes were reopened just after 5:20 a.m.
