2 killed by wrong-way driver on 134 Freeway in Pasadena: CHP
PASADENA, Calif. - Two people were killed and three others hospitalized in Pasadena after a multi-car crash apparently caused by a wrong-way driver, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash happened Sunday around 8:10 a.m. on the westbound freeway at North San Rafael Avenue at about 8:10 a.m. Sunday.
Authorities said a vehicle got onto the freeway from the San Rafael Avenue off-ramp and proceeded to go eastbound in the westbound lanes.
The crash involved a white sedan, a silver minivan and two unknown vehicles, with at least one of the vehicles bursting into flames, the CHP said.
The two people killed in the crash died at the scene. One of the victims was identified as William Yost, 31, according to the County Medical Examiner's website.
The conditions of the three people hospitalized are unknown.
The accident caused traffic congestion in the immediate area, heavily impacting the Colorado Street Bridge, she added. A Sigalert issued at 8:34 a.m. closing the westbound freeway at Orange Grove Boulevard was canceled at 1:08 p.m.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
