2 missing after boat crashes in Palos Verdes Estates

The search is on for two men who are believed to be missing after their boat was found smashed in Palos Verdes Estates.

The United States Coast Guard responded to a call on Christmas Eve after the boat was found overturned around 5 a.m.

The two missing boaters are described as men, around 50-years-old.

"You never want to see anyone go missing when they’re supposed to be with their families, but that’s what we’re here to do [is find them]," said Jake Miller from the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Officials say they left out of Cabrillo Monday and were expected home by midnight. After not checking in, someone called 911 around 5am Tuesday morning.

"I see a lot of stuff washed up, but never a fully overturned boat," said Finley Murphy.

Murphy had been walking on the beach Tuesday with a friend looking for shells and noticed the wreckage.

"It was completely overturned," said Murphy. "There were holes in it."

"Definitely a bummer with the holidays around," said Olivia Mozian. "It’s awful. Puts a damper [on the holidays] especially for the families in that circumstance."

A high-surf advisory remains in effect in the Palos Verdes area through Wednesday night for waves between 8-12 feet.

"Going out and knowing what the weather conditions are going to be like [is important]," said Miller. "The surf conditions, that’s always super important."
