28 arrested during retail theft bust in San Bernardino County

Authorities arrested 28 retail theft suspects in San Bernardino County as part of its latest blitz operation. 

It happened between Dec. 7 and Dec. 14 at the Victoria Gardens Shopping Center and retail stores in Chino Hills, according to the sheriff's department.

Of the 28 arrests, 15 were felony arrests and 13 were misdemeanor arrests, officials said. Additionally, $10,281 in stolen property was recovered. 

Further details on the suspects' identities were not released.

Agencies that assisted the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department included Homeland Security Investigations, California Highway Patrol, and the San Bernardino Police Department.

The blitz operation is the latest made as part of Operation Smash and Grab, which focuses efforts on the Rancho Cucamonga, Apple Valley, Hesperia, Victorville, and Chino Hills shopping districts to combat retail store theft crews. 

Earlier this week, 37 arrests were made in Ventura County in a similar bust. A total of 21 adults and 16 kids were arrested, officials said, and nearly $2,000 in stolen property, burglary tools, and narcotics including methamphetamine, fentanyl, and cocaine, were recovered.
