5-year-old boy dies after possible drowning in Hacienda Heights
LOS ANGELES COUNTY, Calif. - An investigation is underway in Hacienda Heights Monday after a 5-year-old boy was reported dead, possibly from drowning in a backyard swimming pool, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
Deputies responded to a 911 call reporting a boy not breathing around 10:30 p.m. Sunday in the 16000 block of Sigman Street at Stimson Avenue.
Paramedics gave the boy CPR and rushed him to the hospital in critical condition. He later died from his injuries.
Authorities are investigating this as a possible drowning.
FOX 11 was told the mom was at home with a little girl, who noticed her brother was in the swimming pool and ran to alert her mother.
Sheriff's homicide detectives are on scene, but that does not necessarily mean foul play was involved.
A preliminary investigation reveals this appears to be a tragic accident.
The investigation is ongoing.
According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, an average of 371 children drown every year in pools and spas.
