50-acre brush fire erupts near the Getty Center off 405 Freeway
LOS ANGELES - Arson investigators were working to determine the cause of a fire that erupted in the Sepulveda Pass off the 405 Freeway in Bel Air early Wednesday morning, fire officials said.
The fire was 100 percent contained by Thursday afternoon.
The blaze was reported around 12:15 a.m. in the 1300 block of North Sepulveda Boulevard, near Getty Center Drive and east of the 405 Freeway, the Los Angeles Fire Department said.
Fire crews encompassed 200 city and county firefighters that worked to extinguish the flames.
Wednesday’s Sepulveda Fire is in the same area of the Skirball Fire that erupted in 2017 and within the vicinity of the Getty Fire from last October that forced thousands of evacuations.
Fire officials said crews were able to stop the forward progress of the blaze. Crews are expected to remain at the scene over the next few days in case any hot spots flare up as hot conditions prevailed across Southern California.
Two firefighters were injured and potentially suffered dehydration. They did not require hospitalization and returned to the firefight shortly after being evaluated by paramedics, according to LAFD Fire Captain Erik Scott, a spokesman for the department.
Scott also described the fire as "strenuous" and challenging to get to because of the rugged and steep terrain.
“The cause is of paramount concern and it’s under active investigation…we did bring in our arson section because they’re the best of the best. They’re really trained to determine causes, to comb through the debris, to look at their burn patterns…they have some video and to really determine where and what sparked it,” Capt. Scott added just before noon.
No evacuations were ordered and no homes were damaged.
LAFD has called in arson investigators to determine the cause of the fire.
The investigation is ongoing.
