65-year-old man found dead near church in Jefferson Park
(FOX 11) - A white tarp was set up on the side of the Abundant Life Christian Church and under it was the body of a 65-year-old man shot and killed.
According to the LAPD he is a regular in the area and was last seen with two men by Jefferson Park.
"Theres nothing to indicate that he was armed, nothing to indicate he was a threat to anybody. On this day Memorial Day we are going to find another victim," said LAPD Capt. Peter Whittingham.
The shooting at 36th Street and Normandie Avenue was reported around 3:30 p.m. A couple of streets were blocked off throughout the evening as officers investigated the scene.
The LAPD reports 110 homicides in the south bureau a year - many go unsolved.
They worry this one could too because the two suspects took off and no one in the area at the time of the shooting is helping with the descriptions of information .
"It is extremely frustrating and if we don't get the help of the public we will continue to have these killers in the streets," said Capt. Whittingham.
Police are not releasing the name of the victim until his family is notified.
