Alabama man charged in 14 murders, including firefighter and UPS worker

An Alabama man has been charged in connection with 14 murders, including those of a firefighter and UPS worker. 

According to the Birmingham Police Department, 22-year-old Damien McDaniel was recently charged in connection to the murder of Birmingham firefighter Jordan Melton. Melton was shot and killed in July 2023 at a fire station. A second firefighter, Sergeant Jamal Jones, was also shot. 

McDaniel was also charged in connection with the murder of Mia Nickson, who was shot and killed in January 2024.

Birmingham Police told local outlets that murder charges related to the deaths of Nickson and Love were murder-for-hire cases. 

Prosecutors also charged McDaniel in connection with the murder of Anthony Lamar Love Jr., who was shot and killed in April 2024 at a United Parcel Service facility. A second suspect, Charles Nance, 41, was also charged along with McDaniel. 

According to WBRC, McDaniel was also charged in the murders of 11 people following two separate mass shootings at Five Points South in September 2024 and Trendsetters Lounge in July 2024, where several others were injured. 

What we don't know:

Authorities have not elaborated on a possible motive in the crimes.

McDaniel is currently being held without bond and is in custody with the Alabama Department of Corrections.
