CAMARILLO, Calif. - A woman was killed after her car was hit by an Amtrak train in Camarillo, police announced Tuesday.
The crash happened just after 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, at the intersection of Lewis and Upland roads. According to police, a car was heading west down Upland when the car stopped on the tracks. The train engineer, police said, noticed the car on the tracks and tried to apply the train's emergency breaks, but the train still collided with the car.
The driver was airlifted to a nearby hospital, but later died from her injuries. Police have only identified her as a 63-year-old woman. Authorities said that no one on the train was injured, and the train did not derail.
Police said the crash pushed the car into the signal control box which controls the railroad arms. Because of that, the traffic signals at the intersection will be flashing red until at least Wednesday morning.
Camarillo Police are still investigating the crash. Anyone with information was asked to call investigators at 805-388-5100.
