Arcadia man arrested for attempted murder, kidnapping after violent assault caught on camera
ARCADIA, Calif. - A 27-year-old man faces several criminal charges including attempted murder and kidnapping after police in Arcadia received Ring doorbell surveillance video capturing an assault.
The Arcadia Police Department says it received the video on Sept. 30, which showed a woman being dragged and assaulted by a man in the area of Santa Anita Avenue and Camino Real Avenue. Investigators quickly discovered the video had been recorded the night before at about 11:40 p.m.
Police searched the area and narrowed down their search to a home in the 1500 block of S. Santa Anita Avenue. Inside the home they discovered what they say was a "significantly injured adult woman." The victim's injuries were so severe that she needed immediate hospitalization.
Authorities identified the suspect as 27-year-old Robert Michael Mendez, the estranged boyfriend of the victim. He was arrested at the home where the victim was found. Police say Mendez held the victim, who was not identified, against her will inside that home since the previous night.
Mendez was charged with suspicion attempted murder, kidnapping, false imprisonment, and other charges, said police.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to call the Arcadia Police Department at 626-574-5151 (Case number 19-4724). Anyone wishing to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
