COCHISE COUNTY, Ariz. - The Cochise County Sheriff's Office announced that a man from Benson who they consider to be an "investigative lead for threats to kill a presidential candidate" has been taken into custody.
In a brief statement we received, CCSO said the man, identified in earlier statements as 66-year-old Ronald Lee Syvrud, was taken into custody at a place within Cochise County at around 2:30 p.m. on Aug. 22.
While an earlier statement posted by CCSO on their Facebook page did not identify the presidential candidate allegedly targeted, both the Associated Press and Fox News identified the candidate as former President Donald Trump.
Officials with CCSO said Syvrud has a number of outstanding warrants. One is from Wisconsin for alleged DUI-related offenses, and another is from Arizona's Graham County for alleged hit-and-run and alleged failure to register as a sex offender.
