Barbershop in Santa Monica moves operations outside in order to stay afloat

The clippers are still buzzing at Active Barbers in Santa Monica and you can hear them as you walk by, since now their cuts are taking place outside.

They’ve set up pop up canopies on the sidewalk along Wilshire Blvd and have moved out their old-fashioned barber chairs to create a clean and comfortable setting for customers.

Owner Steven Moran had to make the quick decision and adjust to outdoor business after Governor Gavin Newsom announced that hair and nail salons can stay open as long as services are conducted outside for better ventilation.

Moran wanted to avoid a second shutdown for his business, closing shop the first time around already hurt the bottom line and now he’s trying to stay afloat.

Sanitation measures have been put in place, customers must be temperature checked, wear face masks, and sanitize hands before sitting down in the chair.

Barbers are also suited up in masks and face shields and they use disposable gloves and capes for clients.
