Vehicle fire spreads to brush in Elysian Park

A vehicle fire on a freeway transition road near Elysian Park extended into the nearby brush Tuesday, ultimately burning about one acre of vegetation before crews halted its spread.

The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the southbound Golden State (5) Freeway transition to the southbound Harbor (110) Freeway near Elysian Park at around 3:05 p.m. to a report about a vehicle fire that extended to nearby brush, according to Brian Humphrey of the LAFD.

The flames burned uphill amid mild winds and heavy brush. Fire crews had the flames largely doused within an hour, although crews remained on the scene to continue mop-up operations.

It's unclear what caused the vehicle to catch fire, but it was fully engulfed in flames. There were no reports of any injuries, and no structures were threatened.
