Brush fire in Valencia causes three lanes to be closed on NB 5 Freeway
VALENCIA, Calif. - A brush fire being called the Stanford Fire was burning on Friday afternoon in the area of the NB 5 Freeway and Rye Canyon Road in Valencia.
The California Highway Patrol closed the three right lanes of the northbound 5 Freeway in the area, according to city officials. It was unclear when the lanes would reopen.
The Los Angeles County Fire Department was responding to the brush fire, which was initially reported as 1/4 an acre.
Around 1:10 p.m., fire officials were reporting that the fire's forward progress stopped.
Officials with the City of Santa Clarita asked the public to avoid the area and "allow access to first responders and emergency vehicles."
