Azusa cheerleader allegedly killed by ex-boyfriend just days before Christmas

The Azusa community is in mourning after a high school cheerleader was allegedly murdered by her ex-boyfriend.

Angelina Gonzales, a 17-year-old who was a senior at Azusa High School, was stabbed to death back on December 20. Gonzales had just attended a cheerleading banquet and her ex-boyfriend, 18-year-old Daniel Rodriguez, picked her up and took her to his family’s home in Azusa.

Rodriguez has since been arrested and is being charged with murder. If convicted, the ex-boyfriend faces up a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in prison, plus one year determinate, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman’s office.

Over the weekend, the community held a fundraiser to help Gonzales’ grieving family cover funeral expenses. A GoFundMe page has also been launched in the wake of the Azusa cheerleader’s death.
