California fires map: Los Angeles evacuation orders, warnings

LOS ANGELES - As multiple massive wildfires roar out of control throughout Southern California, local municipalities are working to keep evacuation zones up to date for residents who may be wondering if they should stay or go. 

Fire crews are currently fighting several wildfires in Los Angeles County, which include:

• Palisades Fire
• Eaton Fire
• Hurst Fire
• Lidia Fire

Each of these fires and their corresponding impact areas have been issued evacuation orders and warnings. 

Palisades Fire map

Acres burned: 17,234

A large fire ignited in the Pacific Palisades, an affluent Los Angeles community located along the coastline, on Tuesday morning. 

The fire was first reported at around 10:30 a.m. near Piedra Morada and Monte Hermoso drives, near the Palisades Hills Recreation Center. 

LA County Fire Chief Anthony C. Marrone said in an update Wednesday that an estimated 1,000 structures have been destroyed. 

Chief Marrone added that while no fatalities have been reported, there was a high number of significant injuries to residents who refused to evacuate. 

Extreme fire behavior continues to pose significant challenges to firefighting efforts for the Palisades Fire. Wind gusts of up to 60 MPH are forecasted to persist through Thursday. 

Evacuation orders and warnings

Firefighters say 30,000 people are under mandatory evacuation orders. People in the area of Palisades were urged to evacuate immediately. 

Santa Monica residents living between the northern border of the city and San Vicente Boulevard, and between Ocean Boulevard and 26th Street, are also being told to evacuate, according to the city's alert system around 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 7.

According to LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell, over 10,000 households were evacuated and another 15,000 buildings, including businesses, were also evacuated. 

Additional evacuation orders are underway for parts of Los Angeles County, including the area between Merrimac Road and Topanga Canyon Boulevard, south to PCH.

Eaton Fire map

Acres burned: 10,600

The Eaton Fire was first reported near Atladena and Midwick just after 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. 

Five people have died and a significant number of people were injured, officials said on Wednesday. 

On Thursday, officials said that the Eaton fire was at 10,600 acres, but that growth has significantly stopped. 

It's currently 0% contained, and more than 1,000 structures have been damaged and destroyed. The cause of the fire remains unknown.

Chief Marrone also said the department has reached capacity and that he’s requested additional aid from Orange, LA, Ventura, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties, as well as resources from out-of-state and Northern California. The additional resources include 50 engine strike teams, 250 fire engines, and over 1,000 personnel. 

In addition, he said fire crews from Nevada, Oregon and Washington were on the road to help tackle the fires. 

Evacuation orders and warnings

Some communities under evacuation orders include Pasadena, La Cañada Flintridge, Altadena, and Sierra Madre.

Residents north of Woodbury to the 210 Freeway and east of JPL Laboratories are under evacuation order. An evacuation order was also in effect for those in the following areas:

• East of Altadena Drive
• Kinneloa Cyn Road
• Outpost Lane
• Glen Springs Road
• Coolidge Avenue
• Roosevelt Avenue
• Veranda Avenue
• Kengary Lane
• Fox Ridge Drive
• Canyon Close Road
• North Grand Oak Avenue

Sunset Fire map

Acres burned: 43

A fire broke out near the Hollywood Hills, marking at least the fifth incident that forced Los Angeles County residents to evacuate from their homes since January 7.

SkyFOX was over the area as the "Sunset Fire" began spreading near Hollywood Hills and West Hollywood on Wednesday, January 8. The fire was first reported from the 2300 block of North Solar Drive, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Evacuation orders and warnings

Evacuation orders and warnings have been lifted and the fire has been fully contained, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. 

Hurst Fire map

Acres burned: 855 acres

The Hurst Fire was first reported at about 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday in the 5900 block of Yarnell Street. 

The Federal Emergency Management Agency awarded the state a Fire Management Assistance Grant to help fund the fight against the Hurst Fire, as it also did for the Palisades and Eaton fires, according to the governor's office.

Progress was made, however, on Wednesday evening, as CalFire reported 10% of the fire had been contained. 

Evacuation orders and warnings

The governor's office estimated that more than 44,000 people in the area were under evacuation orders, with 40,000 structures threatened.

Lidia Fire map

Acres burned: 348 acres

The Lidia Fire was first reported at about 2:12 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon near the 5700 block of Soledad Canyon Road in Acton, according to CalFire. 

The fire is about 40% contained, according to the Angeles National Forest X account. 

Evacuation orders and warnings

While the Lidia Fire is significantly smaller than the other larger fires burning across Los Angeles County, it has prompted evacuation warnings and orders across a large swath of zones. 

Road closures have also been implemented, including at Soledad Canyon Road between Agua Dulce Canyon Road and Crown Valley Road. 

The Los Angeles County Fire Department and the County of Los Angeles also have live maps that show evacuation orders and warnings.
