BELLFLOWER, Calif. (FOX 11) - Evacuations were ordered Thursday morning in a Bellflower neighborhood after a carjacking suspect broke into a home and barricaded himself inside.
At about 9:30 a.m., the suspect was reported dead.
A crash happened at 3 a.m. near the intersection of Downey Avenue and Jefferson. A man told police a car crashed into his PT Cruiser. When he got out to talk to the other driver, he saw the driver was wearing only boxer shorts and bleeding from his mouth.
The other driver jumped inside his PT Cruiser and attempted to take off, police said.
The owner of the PT Cruiser tried to stop the suspect by jumping through the driver's side window, but was thrown from the vehicle and hospitalized.
The suspect then crashed into two pickup trucks on Downey Avenue. Witnesses said the man then jumped into the bed of another pickup truck that was driving by, pounding on the window, but the truck driver continued down the street.
The suspect jumped out of the truck bed and broke into a nearby home with a woman inside.
Police said the woman called 911 from inside her bedroom and jumped out of a window to safety.
Meanwhile, the suspect remained barricaded inside the home for several hours.
