CARSON, Calif. - The City of Carson is moving to drastically restrict the sale and possession of guns within its borders.
A new measure would ban guns within a mile of schools, churches, day care centers, parks, bars and liquor stores — making it nearly impossible for anyone to be in the city limits with a gun.
"There is a gun violence epidemic in the United States, and the State of California, the County of Los Angeles, and the City of Carson are no exception," the resolution states. "The nation is also suffering from an epidemic of mass shootings. There were at least 19 deadly mass shootings in the U.S. in just the first eight months of 2019."
The resolution defined mass shootings as incidents where at least four people, not including the suspect, were killed in a shooting in one day.
The resolution would allow you to own and have a gun inside your home.

If the city council passes the resolution, and it's deemed constitutional, eight "existing licensed and permitted gun dealers" that are currently in the city limits will no longer be allowed to sell their guns. They would have to leave with reasonable notice.
Some argue that the resolution is too broad and interferes with the second amendment.
Similar bans have been tried in other cities and been overturned as unconstitutional by the U.S. Supreme Court.
The resolution will be introduced to the city council at 6 p.m. Tuesday by Carson Mayor Albert Robles.
