Community Champions: A New Way of Life Reentry Project
LOS ANGELES - There's no place like (a) home. Tonight's Community Champions segment takes us to a home for women just out of prison.
We were excited to tour the newest place run by the non-profit A New Way of Life Reentry Project (ANWOL).
Susan Burton founded homes for women who were recently incarcerated. She knows their story well as she'd been incarcerated herself.
The property we toured is in Montebello. Like at ANWOL's other properties, they work to keep women and their children together. The homes have beds for both mom and kids. ANWOL says "since 1998, more than 1,000 women and children have found safety and support in our reentry homes. More than 300 women have been reunited with their children."

Burton says none of this would be if someone hadn't given her a hand up.
