Computer issue impacting US Customs nationwide

U.S. Customs and Border Protection systems experienced an issue that impacting airports nationwide, including Los Angeles International Airport, officials said Friday.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection systems experienced an issue that impacting airports nationwide, including Los Angeles International Airport, officials said Friday.

"CBP is experiencing a temporary outage with its processing systems at various airports of entry & is taking immediate action to address the technology disruption. CBP officers continue to process international travelers using alternative procedures until systems are back online," CBP said in a statement.

CBP systems began getting back to normal operations as of about 3 p.m., LAX officials tweeted. The tweet said there were no significant impacts to flights as officers were able to process the majority of waiting passengers.

Customs worked to diagnose the computer problem. At one point, officers began processing passengers manually, LAX airport officials said, "so please check with your airline for the latest status of any flight impacts."

LAX officials said they deployed staff to Customs areas to help direct guests and provide other assistance.

The same issue was reported at Dulles International Airport in Washington D.C., according to our sister station FOX 5 DC. As well as New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport

The incident remains under investigation.
