Crime spree led by 23-year-old man ends in deputy-involved shootings in Industry, Hacienda Heights
CITY OF INDUSTRY, Calif. - An investigation was underway Friday after a crime spree led to two deputy-involved shootings in the City of Industry and Hacienda Heights, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
The initial deputy-involved shooting occurred at the intersection of Gail Avenue and Hacienda Boulevard just before 1:10 a.m.
Industry station deputies were called to a CVS located in the 800 block of Hacienda Blvd. in La Puente in regards to an attempted robbery with an assault rifle.
An arriving deputy sent out an alert that indicated the suspect drove away in a black Honda Accord.
Authorities said five minutes after the alert was sent out, deputies spotted the Honda sedan at a Shell gas station in the 1100 block of South Hacienda Blvd. in Hacienda Heights. The suspect then exited the vehicle with what officials described as an assault rifle.
As deputies pulled up to the suspect in a patrol car, the suspect then raised his rifle and yelled ”Get some!” at officers when the first deputy-involved shooting occurred.
The suspect managed to get back into his Honda and drove away westbound to the 60 Freeway at a high rate of speed.
Officials said the suspect lost control of his vehicle and crashed upon exiting the Crossroads Parkway exit.
The second deputy-involved shooting occurred after the suspect got out of his car and slung the assault rifle toward the front of his chest, LASD said.
Deputies subsequently fired multiple shots at the suspect. He was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital.
The condition of the suspect, identified as 23-year-old Rogelio Ochoa, is unknown.
No deputies were hurt in the shooting.
Anyone who witnessed either shooting was asked to call the Sheriff's Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500.
