Dogs killed during home invasion

At least two dogs were killed after police responded to a home in Sunland for reports of a home invasion.

A Sun Valley man has been arrested in connection with the death of at least two dogs during a reported home invasion, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Officers responded to a home on the 9200 block of Telfair Avenue around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Officials said responding officers contacted the suspect, identified as 45-year-old Alexandro Flores, in the backyard armed with a knife. Witnesses told police Flores got into an altercation with the dogs and began stabbing the dogs at the home.

At the scene, two dogs were found dead. A third dog was taken to a local animal shelter; its condition is unknown at this time.

The homeowners told police Flores was a relative and that he was experiencing mental health issues.
