Driver tackled down and taken into custody after slow-speed pursuit by Alhambra police
ALHAMBRA, Calif. (FOX 11) - A bizarre car chase ended in a South L.A. neighborhood Friday afternoon with the suspect being tackled down by Alhambra police and taken into custody.
The pursuit began in Azusa near the 710 freeway after officers spotted a speeding pickup truck and tried to pull the driver over. The driver refused, according to Alhambra police, and a slow-speed chase started.
The male suspect at one point got on the westbound 10 freeway before eventually exiting in Los Angeles and taking surface streets to a home in the area of 41st Street and Avalon Boulevard.
The suspect, driving a blue pickup truck, pulled up to a locked gate, casually exited the vehicle as officers with guns drawn are stationed behind him, and opens the gate to get into the property without obeying officers' orders.
Officers approached the suspect who was shirtless and appeared calm and take him into custody. It's unknown if the suspect, who was not immediately identified, was on some type of narcotics and if the home he pulled up to was his.
Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics provided the suspect with a medical checkup at the scene. His injuries, if any, are unknown.
No additional information was immediately provided by police.
